Join us for February's First Friday Art Walk in downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2025. First Friday, February 7, 2025, from 5 to 7 pm will feature sculptor Star Liana York and painter Peggy Immel. The gallery will pair wine, chocolate, sculpture, and painting for a pre-Valentine shopping experience.
Star Liana York:
Star Liana York moved from Maryland and the Washington D.C. area to Santa Fe in 1985, to be near the Weston Studio Foundry (since closed). “I wound up here for the foundry, but I discovered inspiration on so many levels–the landscape, the culture, the creatures. It touched off an explosion of creativity in me.”This is evident in the prolific body of work she has created in the nearly forty years she has been in the Southwest. A continuing source of expressiveness for her bronze sculptures comes from exploring the native peoples of the Southwest and the mythology of ancient sacred sites, her daily rides on her ranch near Abiqui, as well as the plethora of animals that abound: Mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, ravens, and wild mustangs.
Peggy Immel:
Peggy Immel was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and took her first oil painting class at age ten. She studied architecture at Arizona State University and was an interior designer in Boston, Massachusetts studying painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, the DeCordova Museum School, Lincoln, Massachusetts, and the Silvermine Arts Center, New Canaan, Connecticut. After thirty years in New England, she and her husband Steve returned to the Southwest, settling in Taos, New Mexico. Peggy’sinterest in buildings has reemerged in her recent paintings. “You have these abandoned buildings and small towns with wonderful vistas in the background,” Immel says. “I love to see that contrast.”
