Wind Electrical Safety Tips from PNM

  • New Mexico New mexico Santa Fe, New Mexico United States (map)

With strong winds expected, PNM is sharing the following electrical safety tips to keep you and yours safe.

Wind safety tips:

  • Secure Outdoor Items. Make sure items in your yard that could blow away are anchored down, and if not, bring them inside. Those items could fly into power lines and cause an outage if not secured or removed.

  • Stay Away from Power Lines. Winds may blow branches or other objects into powerlines. Never attempt to remove anything from the lines. Stay away from downed or sagging power lines, and consider them and anything touching them, energized and dangerous. If you see a downed power line, call us at 888-DIAL-PNM.

Stay away from power lines.

  • Use Caution: During lighter winds, it can be fun to fly kites with your family. Before flying, ensure your space is clear of overhead power lines.

  • Report An Outage. If you experience an outage, please report the outage by texting #OUT to 78766 from the phone number associated with your account or by going to PNM.com/Outage. For up to the minute information, please visit our outage map at outagemap.pnm.com.
