In the high desert of New Mexico strange things are always happening. Northern New Mexico is the meeting point of 4 geological provinces: The Colorado Plateau, The Rocky Mountains, The Great Plains and the Basin and Range Province (the Desert) which make a lot of strange things happening to the earth, the air, the lighting and the water.
The healing qualities of the earth and water are abundant in this special area especially in the Chimayo area concerning the earth.
The famous red rock that makes the Chimayo Valley so special has healing qualities that attracts seekers from around the world on this very special Holy Week Weekend to a special little capilla (chapel) called el Santuario de Chimayo.
Starting on Holy Thursday, pilgrims from as far as Albuquerque and all the surrounding villages in Northern New Mexico will be making their way up to this famous little church in search of enlightenment and healing, not just mentally and emotionally but also physically.
This is the goal of the pilgrimage.

If you all are driving to Chimayo, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be careful of the pilgrims and all those walking and running or biking to the historic chapel.
If you plan to walk or visit El Santaurio - respect our sacred home. Be humble and honor the traditions you have been graciously welcomed to observe and participate in.
