Is there anything more enjoyable than looking at art and talking about books? We at the Museum Library don’t think so and that’s why we’re starting an art-themed book club!
Four times a year you are invited to pick up a suggested title related to art, artists, art elements or the “art world” and join us in the galleries for a new perspective on exhibition artworks.
Our first selection will be Robert Henri’s classic, The Art Spirit. Henri was an influential art teacher and painter who worked all over the world, including New Mexico. Originally published in 1923, The Art Spirit has never been out of print and never stopped inspiring lovers of art. Full of insight and the belief that art is everyone, Henri’s themes and ideas will influence our discussion in the galleries as we view Henri’s own paintings as well as other works by his students held in our permanent collection.
If this non-fiction book isn’t appealing to you, we suggest Mari Sandoz’s fictional account of Henri’s boyhood in Nebraska, Son of a Gamblin’ Man: The Youth of an Artist.
Our first meeting will be at Noon on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the Plaza building.
