The Caribbean Rhythm of New Mexico at Paradiso Friday September 13th! Show starts at 8pm.
My name is Jacob Decimus: math teacher and musician. I am a guitar player and lead singer for KENEP. I love playing other style of music, but I have a special corner in my heart for Caribbean rhythms specifically Zouk and Haitian Compass.
In March 2021, the idea to form a band that reflects another musical current came up. In July 2022 KENEP was officially founded. Since the beginning, we have been experiencing with Zouk. Now KENEP is positioning itself to become the most sort out party band in New Mexico.
Zouk is a musical movement pioneered by the popular band KASSAV in the early 1980s. Zouk is fast tempo and percussion-driven rhythm. Zouk is a combination of Haitian Compass, Salsa, and several African musical styles. As time passes, Zouk gradually becomes indistinguishable from Haitian Compass. This is what we call Zouk-Love. KENEP is doing its best to keep the original concept of Zouk (nice melody and catchy cord combinations). And KENEP is a band that has a promising future.
